The Quiet Cold

The Quiet Cold

Lisa O'Grady

Lisa was born in Kilkenny and spent twelve years living and working in the
UK before settling in Cork. After stepping away from her career as a
radiographer to raise her three children, she found herself increasingly drawn
to the natural world on her doorstep, spending countless hours exploring the
beaches and coastline of East Cork.

A self-taught artist, Lisa began painting ten years ago, initially creating
pieces as gifts for friends and family. Her paintings first gained wider
attention when they were displayed in a local framing studio, leading to
opportunities to exhibit her work locally and share it with a growing audience.
She was was delighted to take part in the Ballymaloe Craft Fair in 2025 and the
Cloyne Art Exhibition in 2026.

The Irish coastline is at the heart of Lisa’s practice. She is captivated by
the raw power of the ocean and the ever-changing relationship between sea, sky
and land — the shifting light, layered textures and restless energy of the
coast. Her paintings are intuitive and immersive, allowing the movement and
spontaneity of paint to guide the process. Rather than simply depicting a
landscape, she seeks to capture its atmosphere, emotion and sense of wildnes
